4 Foods Girls With Flawless Skin Always Eat

As a beauty writer, I’ve been lucky enough to try out some of the most innovative (and crazy expensive) moisturizers and serums on the market. Most are okay and a few are so great they make you think twice about blowing your monthly budget on snail serums, but to be honest, all of them pale in comparison with a healthy diet packed with vitamins, nutrients, and good fats.

Boring, I know. But hear me out.

If you’re not nourishing your skin from the inside out, it’s going to show — no matter how many diamonds went into the making of your exciting new eye cream. There’s simply no substitute for water, sleep, and omega-3 fatty acids. To truly achieve flawless skin, it helps to make it a point to: find ways to de-stress, whether you opt for yoga or meditation; get acquainted with a good dermatologist who can lead you down a path to personalized products that can actually help your skin type; and eat.

Seriously — don’t deprive your skin of the nutrition it desperately needs to stay hydrated, supple, and healthy enough to produce collagen. And, while you’re meal planning for the week, consider these four foods, which would be total celebrities in the Perfect Skin Universe, had I not just invented that mythical place.

1. Brazil Nuts

All nuts are incredibly beneficial for your health, but Brazil nuts really stand out for their skin-living nutritional content. They’re rich in selenium, a trace mineral that’s important for skin health and hair growth. Brazil nuts are a source of zinc, B complex vitamins, and vitamin E and can help reduce acne, balance dry skin, and even fight off fine lines and wrinkles.

2. Salmon


Another food you already know is incredible for weight loss and weight maintenance (and just about everything else), salmon is one of the best sources of omega-3 fatty acids you’ll find. Omega-3 can reduce inflammation in the body, which is extremely helpful if you have acne or psoriasis, and they protect skin cells against sun damage. Omega-3’s are also a wonderful anti-aging nutrient that fights wrinkles and fine lines and increases your skin’s hydration, giving you a more radiant, dewy look.

3. Avocado


You’ll never regret stocking your fridge with multitasking avocados – this delicious fruit has skin benefits when you eat it and when you create a sweet avocado and honey mask to tame inflammation and soften dry skin. As a food, it’s rich in good fatty acids that hydrate skin, antioxidants to prevent damage from free radicals and vitamins E and C to protect from ultraviolet rays and produce more collagen. Avocados are even a source of biotin, which helps make your skin and hair more glorious. It’s almost as if nature provided avocados just so we could have flawless skin.

4. Eggs


Just one egg a day provides a rich source of selenium, vitamin D, B12, B6, and enough protein to fuel you for hours. The amino acids in eggs generate proteins in your skin cells that include collagen and elastin for stronger, more supple skin that is less prone to wrinkles. Eggs protect your skin from free radical damage and, like avocados, can be repurposed — egg white masks are famous for their ability to make pores look nonexistent.
