Gender-Neutral Baby Announcements for All You Moms Like Kathy Witterick
May 26, 2011
Have you heard of the Canadian parents who are keeping their 4-month old’s gender under wraps? That’s right, Kathy Witterick and David Stocker, plus their two sons, a good friend and two midwives who helped in the delivery room are the only ones who know if baby Storm is a boy or girl.
According to Yahoo News, by keeping Storm’s gender a secret, the parents are challenging their friends, family and everyone who meets Storm to “let Storm discover for him/herself what s/he wants to be” without using any labels.
The ironic thing is that Stocker also says the following, “What we noticed is that parents make so many choices for their children. It’s obnoxious.” Ummm, isn’t he choosing this confusing genderless path for Storm? Now that’s obnoxious!
What’s the problem with talking about your child’s gender? Yes, people treat boys and girls differently, and in many ways they are different, but it’s your job as a parent to teach your children that they can transcend the stereotypes and be anything and everything they want to be…regardless of what’s in their pants. And if you don’t like the way they are treated by others because of their gender, it’s your job to step up and tell them or show them how they should be treated.
What do you think? Are these parents crazy or are they on to something? Disagree with me and like the idea of being gender-free? Here are some unisex baby announcements for your gender-free baby.
