My almost two-year-old daughter just can’t keep up with the neighbors’ kids. They fly around on their bikes and riding toys in little packs, running circles around her on her little red tricycle. She could probably get the thing going pretty well if she could really get the power to pedal, but she’s so small that her feet slip and she ends up pathetically behind.
I had heard a lot about these new Glide Bikes–they’re pedal-less riding toys that are designed to teach even the youngest riders balance and steering. Tired of seeing my daughter eat the other kids’ dust, I decided to try one. It was unseasonably warm, the street was full of bikes, so I brought out the Glide Bike.
The verdict? It’s really cool! My daughter can’t maneuver it just yet, but in a few months, she’ll be gliding alongside all the other kids in the neighborhood. Unlike when she’s riding a tricycle, the Glide Bike is teaching her to balance, which is the most important skill in riding a real two-wheeler. Best of all, the Glide Bike is fully adjustable and holds kids up to 100 pounds so we’ll just keep gliding until we get the hang of it.
