Good Question: A Functional Bag for Travel

From a Reader : Hi everyone. I'm going away to Europe on holiday in October. I plan to wear black running shoes on the days that I know I'll be doing a lot of walking. What kind of handbag can I wear with runners or very casual athletic shoes? Nothing too big… and I'm trying to stay away from backpacks. Thanks!

Our Suggestion: First off, we're totally jealous! In terms of bags, one thing is for sure: you want it big enough to stash your camera, map and other tiny essentials. Anything too big and you'll be dying from exhaustion before you get a chance to have a café au lait at that cute corner bistro.

Go For a Messenger Bag: Try this Lacoste 'Sailing' Messenger Bag in sporty black and red. It will look fashionable with trainers, but will wear equally well with other outfits. Other advantages are the roomy interior, so you can carry a water bottle and travel book, and the across-the-body strap that makes for a safer, more comfortable journey. Another great pick is this lightweight, canvas Diesel Bags Sound System Mr.Guy (on sale for $36) that looks chic slung over your shoulder.

Try LeSportsac: This company is known for their casual, sporty looking bags made of stain-resistant nylon in fun, colorful prints and patterns. For a whimsical take, check out this tokidoki for LeSportsac 'Gioco' Shoulder Bag ($160) or their Travel Tote ($88) that's big enough to stash a sweater for chilly afternoons.

We hope this helps. Have a great trip!
