Good Question: The Perfect Handbag - for me

Question: I have won a little bit of money for a shopping spree, and I earmarked about $300 for a new handbag. I want a versatile, trend-proof bag that will work well while running around town with the kids AND on fun girls night’s out. I would prefer something with shorter straps, but long enough that I can wear it on my shoulder easily. I don’t want it to fall below my waistline, since that would draw attention to my less desirable areas. I want it to be big enough to carry more than just a wallet and cell phone, but I also don’t want something that looks like a bottomless pit. Got any suggestions?

Solution: You deserve a hand for winning a wardrobe windfall, and for knowing what you want! To get the most bag for your buck, look for boxy shapes with extra pockets and hardware detailing.

The DKNY Pocket Suede Hobo ($295) has twin pouches in the front for those smaller items that tend to drift in huge bags.

Coach’s Chelsea Leather Satchel ($458) is is hip without any trend du jour tendencies. The Dooney & Bourke Croc Embossed Hoboicon medium size won’t weigh you down.

For a little color, try the Dooney & Burke’s Croc Print Hoboicon ($320), the deep blue will coordinate with both your errand running Mom jeans and girl’s night out denim.

Hype’s Picadilly Satchelicon ($225) in sage leather with intricate buckle detailing is a winner in both shape and size.

Check out Gap’s new high-end leather bags. The Leather Lock baguette is only $134. You’ll have enough left over to buy a matching wallet.
