Good Question: Soft , Layering T-shirts. PLEASE!
May 11, 2007
From A SheFinds Reader: I am always cold and wear sweaters all of the time. I am desperately in search of some long-sleeve tshirts to wear under sweaters. The very thin, layering kind. But they have to be SOFT! I keep trying new brands and they keep failing me. Two years ago I bought some great ones at JCrew but they changed how they are made and are now itchier. Same for the Gap and even American Apparel. I am desperate!
The Answer: Getting the chance to wear my big, bulky sweaters is one of the best (and sometimes itchiest) parts of the cool weather season. In making my fashion rounds, I’ve found a few places that offer just the thing to come between me and my knits. Autrepeau, which means “other skin” in French, was founded by two former corporate women who were tired of their scratchy clothing. They’ve come up with several long sleeve shirts like the Long Sleeve Crew Neck and VNeck. I tried the Lace Scoop Cap Sleeve and can vouch it is soft. It’s the perfect weight for layering under sweaters and is nice enough to wear on its own. However, it’s a tad sheer, so wear a bra that’s close to your skin color. LA Made reports its tshirts “have become nothing short of a cult item.” My next tshirt purchase is likely to be the Essential Long Sleeve Tee. The cut is lean, long, thin and the way I like it! SoftSurroundings.com (with a name like that, their clothes HAVE to be comfy) offers three-quarter sleeve options like a silk tee and a Tencel Twill V-neck. Tencel, called the “Miracle Fiber,” is known for being luxurious and drapey. Want more? Find other soft tees from candccalifornia.com, Splendid and parkvogel.com.
