I am pretty sure I never had pre-made baby food growing up. My mother just mashed up whatever she was making for the family and gave that to me.
When it came to my own baby, price wasn’t my guide as much as her preference. As long as it didn’t contain additives, I was willing to let her try it. What I found is that all pureed store-bought baby food is not the same.
My daughter’s favorite was Sprout, which came in flavors like roasted bananas and sweet potatoes with white beans. And I’m telling you, I would eat the stuff–it’s delicious. I liked that there were some spices to acquaint her with and she really did lick her bowl clean.
Believe it or not, Sprout costs about the same as Gerber, but it’s not as easy to find. So the real expenditure wasn’t money, but effort having to make sure I never ran out because I could never just go to the nearest store and get some.
What about you? If you buy your baby food, do you splurge or figure a pureed pear is a pureed pear, no matter what the packaging?
