Keeping up with this year’s hair trends is almost as hard as keeping up with the Kardashians–there are just so many of them! 2018 began with bold, colorful trends like Marshmallow Hair and Ultra Violet Hair. Then, we saw a bunch of ’90s-inspired styles and accessories make a major comeback. Not to mention, there are so many classic cuts that everyone’s dying to try, like Curtain Bangs, the A-Line Cut, and the Pixie Cut.
Now that all of these amazing hair trends are coming to the forefront, it means that we have to say goodbye to some last year’s trends. Here are some of the hair trends that are OUT for spring 2018:
1. Tiger-Eye Hair
This hair trend was sought out by everyone in 2017 because of its universally-flattering color combination of golden and brown stripes. But now, it looks like people are opting for bold, mermaid-inspired hues like Pink and Ultra Violet Purple.
“It has recently been announced that The Pantone Color of The Year for 2018 is Ultra Violet. What is great about this color trend is that you can be as bold or as subtle as you like,” says Siobhan Jones of Headmasters Colour Ambassador.
2. Super Sleek Middle Parts
Stars like Hailey Baldwin helped bring back this ’90s-era hair trend in 2017. But, it’s being dethroned by the Slicked Back Hair trend and Air-Dried Texture.
“Air-dried hair looks effortlessly cool, enhancing the hair’s own texture and movement that will give any cut or style the right vibe for 2018. No products or tools are needed for this one, it will be about leaving it natural,” explains Craig Taylor, Hari’s Creative Director.
3. Platinum Blonde Buzz Cuts
Zoe Kravitz and Katy Perry were among the many stars that chopped their hair off in 2017, and instead rocked bold, edgy platinum blonde buzz cuts. Now, stars are letting their shaved heads grow out into gorgeous Pixie Cuts–and they’re ditching platinum blonde for honey blonde.
“Color wise I’d say chocolate brown and honey shades will be popular as long as the hair looks healthy with maximum shine. To me, that’s always a head turner,” Charles Worthington brand ambassador Ken O’Rourke says.
4. Shaggy Hair
Sorry, Taylor! Shaggy Hair is o-u-t for spring 2018. The ’70s shag is characterized as a super-messy, super-feathered look and brings back a lot of nostalgia. But like all good things, Shaggy Hair must come to an end. It looks like it’s being replaced with luscious curls–and they’re inspired by another retro decade…
“Two of the most popular series have been Glow and Stranger Things; both set in the 80s. We’re seeing a massive rise in retro cuts and styles,” Tegan from Not Another Salon tells Harper’s BAZAAR. “From the bouffant and beehives used in Chanel’s latest collection to the slicked back hair used in the last Jason Wu show, not to mention the massive rise in the popularity of mullets, big curly blowouts and perms on the salon floor. I think it’s safe to say we’ve moved away from 90s grunge and on to the 80s glam!”
