Wellness Wednesday: 4 Ways To Make Your Morning Coffee Order Healthier

For most people, coffee in the morning is a non-negotiable. We get that, so we’re not going to tell you that you have to cut it out of your diet.

There are, however, a few ways to make that daily cup of joe a bit healthier. We hate to remind you, but starting your day with a beverage filled with sugar and calories isn’t ideal. Luckily, there are some tricks to make your coffee order satisfying and balanced. Remember these on your next coffee run:

1. Try swapping out traditional creamer or half & half for almond or coconut milk. They will still sweeten your coffee, but they contain more vitamins, iron and antioxidants than traditional milk. Plus, they’re only 60 calories per serving.

2. Flavor your coffee with natural ingredients. Most of the flavor shots used to make the drinks on the menu use a sugary syrup. Try sprinkling in cinnamon or nutmeg instead.

3. If you don’t mind the taste, try a cup of plain black coffee. Having it this way will save you the most in calories and sugar.

4. Order a smaller size. Not only does a smaller cup mean fewer calories, but when you get a large or XL coffee, you are more apt to sip on it throughout the day and all that lingering caffeine actually makes you have more of an appetite.
