The Hells Angels Sue Alexander McQueen Over Skull Motif (And Loss Of Street Cred)
October 27, 2010
The Hells Angels motorcycle gang has their panties in a bunch over an Alexander McQueen ring. You’d think the allegedly bad-ass bikers would have bigger fish to fry, but Vogue UK reports the famed gang is suing Alexander McQueen over trademark protection rules.
Their signature “winged death head” motif used on a McQueen knuckle duster is so recognizable, they claim, “The impact of these marks is virtually incomparable, and as a result they have great commercial value.”
It’s not often high fashion mixes with motorcycle gangs–except that dressing like a Hells Angel member is kinda sorta cool now, with all the leather jackets and motorcycle boots in style–does this mean we have to dress with caution for the rest of the season?
Check out the offending pieces:
Alexander McQueen knuckle duster is no longer available, perhaps pulled from the site, or such a smash hit, it sold out quickly.
This Alexander McQueen winged skull scarf ($425) isn’t immune to scrutiny either.
