We all like to break out those cozy sweaters when the weather gets chilly. But the most annoying thing about rocking them? Those unwanted, fuzzy balls that seem to pop up whenever you wash. And if you’re tired of picking them off over and over again, here are a few tried and true tips to help you prevent your sweaters from pilling this winter.
.Set your washer to the delicate cycle. To stop the pilling, go ahead and make sure that you are washing your sweaters on a gentle cycle and select a cool temperature that won’t agitate the fabric.
.Go for a hand wash when needed. If you’re dealing with a very delicate sweater that gets those fuzz balls often, then the washing machine may not be your friend. Try hand washing in cool water to avoid.
.Wash like with like. Make sure to separate out your clothes. Some sweaters should not be washed with certain fabrics like terry cloth that can cause lint.
.Buy the right laundry detergent. Some detergents like Tide have enzymes that help to gently break down stains and other materials, which can be helpful when dealing with pilling. Plus, make sure you’re using that fabric softener.
.Line dry your clothes. Skip the medium or hot dryer cycle because it may be too harsh for the fabric of your sweater. Line dry for the best results.
