Hey, Salma Hayek, It's Time to Get Rid of That Pacifier

Okay, you back? So what’s with Salma Hayek toting her 2-year-old daughter Valentina around with a pacifier in her mouth? Valentina is adorable, but it’s about time she got weaned off that pacifier, don’t you think?

According to, doctors recommend weaning your child off the pacifier by age two to prevent tooth misalignment. There’s even a study that reports children that suck a pacifier or their thumb for more than three years are more likely to develop speech problems. So Salma, it’s the doctor’s orders, not just ours.

I never gave my daughter a pacifier–in part because I didn’t want to have to deal with weaning–so I’m really no expert. But I’ve heard that dipping it in white vinegar, decaffeinated coffee or lemon juice could make your child want the pacifier less and less.

What did you do to wean your child off the pacifier? Share you tried and true tactics with Salma in the comments.
