How A SoulCycle Instructor Packs Her Gym Bag

Today’s world moves fast — very fast. Especially here in New York City! For me, there are never enough hours in the day, so making sure I am well-prepared for it is not an option, it is a necessity.

Almost every day I am out the door very early in the morning and not back until the afternoon when I drop off my kids from school. At that point I usually have an hour or two to answer emails, write articles (like this one), make playlists for my evening class, and I’m back out the door (often until way past dinner and the kids’ bedtime).

Prepping my gym bag helps keep me organized, efficient, and most important: on time! My day is scheduled with classes, appointments, clients, and pick-ups back to back, so being productive and economical with my time is a must. I’ve learned that no matter what, I cannot go to sleep without my bag packed and ready to walk out the door the next morning. When I come home in the afternoon, I lay out my clothing for the next day to pack later that evening so that when I’m pooped and ready to hit the pillow, I don’t have to think or fold — I just (neatly) shove all my stuff into my bag and am ready to do it all over again.

But before we go on to the how-tos of my packing process, here’s the other part of the equation: I try to bring as little with me as possible to avoid breaking my back lugging a heavy bag around all day. I need my essentials, of course, certain toiletries cannot be eliminated, but the smaller my bag, the lighter my bag, the happier I am! So every night, before I pack, I remove everything I possibly can to lighten the load.

On a typical day, here’s what goes into my bag:

– 2 SoulCycle outfits

– 1 yoga outfit

– 1 bag of toiletries (which includes face cleanser, spring water spray, SPF face lotion, body oil, contact solution, mascara)

– 1 clean “reguar” outfit

Zing nutrition bars

Vega Sport to mix with water

– headphones

– water bottle

I also keep the following in my gym bag but I know that for most of you, it’ll go in a purse:

– computer

– wallet

– keys

– USB charging cable

– cellphone

Here’s how I pack it:

I roll each of the outfits up with the pants on the outside and everything else in the center (underwear and sports bra). I load them into the bag with the last one I’ll need at the bottom then the others in the order I’ll need them. this way, no fumbling around is necessary!

I put the bars and drink packets in the front pocket along with my wallet and keys. My toiletries case (Regular Train Case from LeSportsac) goes at the top so it’s easiest to grab and use all day long

I always have a bottle of water with me in my hand (unless I just finished one!) and I always have a USB charging cable stashed in an outside pocket. As for what goes on my body, I wear my shirt and sunglasses and carry nothing else!!
