Shapewear, obviously, sits really tight to your body since its sole purpose is to suck everything in. If you’re someone who wears shapewear often, then you need to know properly wash and take care of them if you want them to last as long as they should.
First and foremost, it’s important to wash your shapewear before the first wear. A lot of people touch shapewear throughout the production process, not to mention all the people who have tried it on before you. It’s best to make sure it’s clean before wearing.
Shapewear should be treated much like bras. Never wear the same shaper two days in a row because the elastic is likely to break down faster. If you wear shapewear often, and not just for fancy events, consider buying a few sets in order to rotate them in your wardrobe.
Wash shapewear after two wears at most, since it sits so close to the body. It’s best to hand wash shapewear because of the delicate fibers, but you can most certainly put it in the washing machine in a mesh garment bag. Use warm or cold water as hot water will break down the elastic. Simply lay it flat to dry.
