Wellness Wednesday: 3 Ways To End Your Day So You Don't Go To Bed Stressed

Ever had one of those nights where you get into bed but can’t fall asleep because your brain won’t shut off? Same. And more often than not, stress is the culprit. Thinking about everything you need to get done tomorrow or a big upcoming project can prevent your mind from slowing down long enough for you to actually get some rest. Luckily, there are ways to wind down and ease your mind right before bed so you can get a peaceful, restful sleep. Here are a few techniques to try:

Take A Hot Bath: There is nothing quite like a hot, relaxing bath. To make sure you are getting your mind to stop running turn on some music or read a book/magazine and light some candles.  Soaking in water actually calms your nervous system which reduces the levels of stress and anxiety in your body.

Sip Some Green Tea: Green tea doesn’t have any caffeine (which can actually trigger stress) and is filled with amino acids that promote relaxation. Sip a cup of green tea while reading a book or watching your favorite show on Netflix.

Meditate/Exercise: Meditation is known for being able to help eliminate stressful thoughts. If meditation isn’t for you, exercising works just as well. These activities help produce endorphins which improve the ability to sleep.

So the next time you can’t get your brain to turn off before bed, try one of these easy techniques.
