Obviously, there’s a right and wrong way to do everything. I have a feeling you might be filing your nails the wrong way. Here are a few pointers on how to properly file your nails.
File in one direction. Don’t file your nail back and forth because the “sawing” motion will cause tiny splits and tears in your nails, which lead to cracks over time. File your nail in one direction, starting from one corner and stopping in the middle. Repeat on the other side and then shape.
Use a fine grit file. If you’re filing natural nails, they are a lot more delicate than acrylic nails so you’ll need a softer file. Stay away from coarse grit files if you don’t want your natural nails to get torn up.
Hold the file flat. When filing the tip of your nail, make sure to hold the file flat and not angled. If the file is angled it will thin out the tip of your nail and then it can break easier.
There you have it! Next time you do an at-home manicure, try your best to remember these tips.
