It always happens when you’re in a rush: You’re doing makeup and your setting powder explodes everywhere, dusting your vanity and clothing with a layer of makeup. Like all makeup stains, powder makeup can be frustrating to remove from your clothing. Loose powder is messy and is extra noticeable on dark clothing. Your first instinct might be to rub or brush the product away, but this can cause even more damage. Luckily, there are few ways to easily remove powder makeup from your clothing.

First, ignore your desire to to brush the powder away (especially if it is a color product). Brushing away the powder can spread the spill. You also never want to rub the product, because this will push the powder into the fabric. Instead, try blowing the product off the garment. You can even use a hair dryer to blow the product away.

If blowing away the powder doesn’t work, try using makeup remover. It’s usually okay to use makeup remover on clothing as long as the makeup remover is not oil based. For clothing, stick with a cleansing water, like the How To Get An Ink Stain Out Of A Leather Purse
For a powder foundation or eye shadow stain, you might need to use something a little stronger to get rid of the stain. If you get a lot of makeup stains on your clothing, liquid dish soap is your new best friend. Dish soap will get most makeup stains out fabric. Mix a few drops of the dish soap with water and apply it to the stain using a clean cloth or a toothbrush. Sometimes you can even use your fingers to work the mixture into the stain. The dish soap should remove the majority of the stain, but to get rid of any remaining residue, put the garment in the wash. This should work for both light and dark colored clothing. Thankfully, powder stains are much easier to remove from clothing because unlike liquid foundations, they are not oil based.
