Looking good in white jeans by Memorial Day (when it’s appropriate to start wearing them again) is high on my priority list right now. And since it’s no secret that dancers have amazing legs (toned without bulk!), I consulted Christopher Harrison, founder of AntiGravity® Fitness, for some easy ballet-inspired moves to get white jean ready.
These intense plié sets can be done anywhere and don’t require equipment (although we are big fans of Harrison’s AntiGravity Hammock and AIRbarre classes!). Here’s how to do them:
1) Hold onto a countertop, back of a chair or something at approximately hip height.
2) Keeping your spine in upright alignment, perform a shallow squat in first position (heels together, toes apart). Don’t let your heels come off the ground. Keep your knees over your toes.
3) At the bottom of your plié stay and pulse for one minute or for 20 seconds past the burn (whichever comes first).
4) Repeat 3 times.
For maximum results:
5) Do the same in second position (feet approximately one foot apart, toes facing outwards, knees tracking over toes).
6) Squeeze on the up pulse.
Voila! You’ve targeted adductors, quadriceps, hamstrings and gluteals. Lengthening and strengthening these leg muscles means you’ll look good in anything and everything this summer–especially those white jeans!
