When shorts suits started popping up on red carpets everywhere this spring, we had our doubts. But now that we’ve seen how polished and pretty the look can be – when styled correctly – we are fully on board. A little celebrity persuasion – like Amanda Seyfried, Kate Beckinsale and the GOOP queen herself Gwyneth Paltrow – never hurt.

Amanda & Kate’s look:

Try a blazer embellished at the collar like Amanda Seyfried’s – we love this Carter Rock or Die Blazer ($138).

Keep it simple with a basic black tank underneath; this James Perse Tunic Tank in Black ($85). It may be pricey, but it feels amazing, and is dressier than your regular layering tank.

Fancy silk shorts with a tie-waist is a great way to wear shorts at night or in a chic, dressy way. We love these Bebe Linen Tie Front Shorts ($69).

Make sure legs look extra toned by rocking high pumps like these Steve Madden ‘Feelixx’ pumps ($89.95). The front toe detail is rock ‘n’ roll and the peep toe is classic – a great two-in-one.

Gwyneth’s look:

Start with an embellished, nighttime blazer like this Spiegel Metallic Linen Blazer ($69) – try it in cool silver.

Pair it with a basic tank – the simpler the better (the ladies above skipped necklaces, too). We think this Keep Me for Bop Basics Oversized Tank ($55) is perfect for the job.

These relaxed fit Elizabeth and James Juliet shorts in Sugar Cane ($265) are perfect for the nighttime trend. The side tie is sweet and the tailoring is extremely flattering.

Top the look off with pretty gold pumps like these ASOS SELENA Skinny Court shoes ($30.44, down from $47.35)
