There is nothing worse than taking off your red lipstick and still having remnants on–or around!–your lips, leaving them looking like you didn’t even take off your lipstick in the first place. What fun is a bold red lip if you can never get back to your natural lip color?!

Lucky for you, we’re here to solve that problem. Just follow the lipstick removal steps below and you’ll never wake up with that dreaded red ring of lipstick around your lips again.

Step 1: Massage Vaseline or Aquaphor onto your lips and let it sit for about 5 minutes.

Step 2: Use a cotton round to first press down on your lips, allowing the Vaseline or Aquaphor to fully absorb. Then slide the cotton round to wipe off the product. For dark colored lipstick, you may have to repeat this step more than once.

Step 3: Once you have removed most of the product, use a lip exfoliator to remove the remaining lipstick.

Step 4: Don’t forget to hydrate! Use a moisturizing lip balm so your lips don’t get dry.

And you are done! Just like that, your lips will look like you never even had on lipstick.
