How To Stop Mosquito Bites Before They Happen
August 4, 2015
Oh, mosquitoes. Basically an essential part of summer, mosquitoes are also quite pesky. Not only are they annoying to swat away, but they leave us with ugly-looking bites that itch beyond relief. I don’t know about you, but I’m not going to spend my summer nights indoors because of bugs. Luckily, there are a few preventative measures that will keep bugs from biting you!
1. Lemon verbena. From my days as a L’Occitane sales associate, I learned that the store’s most popular fragrance was also a superb bug repellent. Mosquitoes hate the lemony aroma so they will avoid you at all costs. Buy yourself some lemon verbena essential oil and rub it onto the spots of your body where you normally get bit. Lemon verbena can also be planted in your garden if you want extra bug protection. There are also a lot of other natural oils/plants that will repel bugs like lavender, catnip, and basil.
2. Wear light-colored clothing. For some reason, bugs are attracted to dark colors, maybe because it resembles the fur of an animal? Anyway, it’s better to wear light and bright colors to keep the bugs away from you.
3. Drain standing water. Ever wonder why there are so many mosquitoes when you’re by standing water? They require water to breed. Yuck. Drain all resources of standing water like the garbage, pet bowls, gutters, etc. This way if there’s no water around, then the area will be more likely to remain bug-free.
