Last night American Horror Story: Hotel finally premiered and it was kind of intense. The fifth season of Ryan Murphy’s thriller anthology takes place at Hotel Cortez set in downtown Los Angeles. Here’s what went down.
The premiere episode begins with two innocent Swedish tourists checking into Hotel Cortez, and they are hardly impressed with its lackluster (and somewhat disturbing) appearance. Iris, the hotel manager played by Kathy Bates, tells them they can’t get their money back so the girls are forced to stay. After attempting to mask the horrible smell coming from their mattress, they decide to cut it open only to find a decaying man stuffed inside.
Let’s jump to Detective John Lowe (Wes Bentley) who is investigating a gruesome crime scene that involves a woman impaled with a spear on top of a man with his eyes and tongue gauged out. The killer calls Lowe later that night says he’s going to kill again at the Hotel Cortez. Right before Lowe goes to the hotel, we see a Gabriel (Max Greenfield) check into room 64 for a quick heroin fix with Sally (Sarah Paulson), where he is raped until he tells Sally he loves her.
When we finally meet The Countess played by Lady Gaga, she’s getting ready for a night out with her lover Donovan (Matt Bomer), who is Iris’ son. They meet another couple while watching a movie in a cemetery and bring them back to Hotel Cortez for a blood-filled orgy.

Oh, and Donovan and Sally are actually dead. AHS flashes back to 1994 where you see Donovan meeting up with Sally at the Hotel Cortez to shoot heroin. Iris follows her son to the hotel and when she bursts into the room she finds Donovan dead. Iris then pushes Sally out the window to her death. When she goes back to her son, she sees The Countess sitting above him.
What did you think of the premiere episode?!
