It might be Fleet Week in New York City, but that doesn’t mean we want to look like sailors all summer long. Stripes are always trendy during these warmer months, but it is important to know how to wear them. First off, you can’t wear horizontal stripes (especially navy ones) with anything red. That’s just asking to look like you belong on a ship. Second, you probably shouldn’t wear an all striped ensemble like a dress or a skirt and top combo. Oh, and most importantly, don’t wear them with anything else nautical like anchors or lobsters, that just doesn’t work.

Since we’ve seen so many girls offending this trend by pairing their stripes with the wrong things, we had to turn to our blogger friends for some styling advice. Whether you choose to go the edgy route and layer black stripes with leather or you pair blue stripes with jeans, here are 7 ways to wear your stripes this summer. Copy the outfits in our slideshow, and you’ll be good to go.
