In the Trenches: A Must-Have Coat for Fall
October 30, 2007
Why: Fall coats can be tricky. Buy a heavy one, and you'll end up sweating; stick to a light-weight jacket and scarf combo, and some mornings you'll be half frozen before you reach the subway.
And that's one of the many reasons we say (and you agreed) that a trench coat should be in every woman's closet. Light enough to keep B.O. at bay when worn with a thin top but substantial enough to ward off the wind chill when thrown over a sweater, the trusty trench serves as an all-weather friend. An accentuated waist doesn't hurt either.
But prices for such a simple style can run well into the thousands. What's a girl to do when she needs a basic jacket but doesn't have a lot to spend? Buy Bloomingdale's own version of the classic. Available in five colors (we dig the tomato red), the double-breasted beauty retails for a mere $75. Which leaves plenty of money left for investing in a real winter coat. If only that decision were as easy to make!
