Instagram's New Algorithm Is A Serious Game-Changer
March 18, 2016
Instagram announced some pretty heavy news this week: they’re changing their algorithm. What does this mean?! Well, your feed will no longer appear in chronological order and instead will be based on what you care about the most.
“To improve your experience, your feed will soon be ordered to show the moments we believe you will care about the most,” the Facebook-owned company said in a statement. “The order of photos and videos in your feed will be based on the likelihood you’ll be interested in the content, your relationship with the person posting and the timeliness of the post.”
Basically, your feed will now be created by what you interact with the most, whether it’s likes or comments. “If your favorite musician shares a video from last night’s concert, it will be waiting for you when you wake up, no matter how many accounts you follow or what time zone you live in,” the statement continues. “And when your best friend posts a photo of her new puppy, you won’t miss it.”
This new algorithm is sending everyone into an emotional spiral. Let’s just say we weren’t exactly happy here at SHEfinds when we found out.
John Mayer shared his thoughts on the change and it’s perfectly on point:
What do you think of the new algorithm?!
