We are all aware of the “Duchess Effect”: Anything Kate Middelton wears is likely to sell out immediately. Aside from putting brands like Issa and LK Bennett on the market, Kate is also known for setting fashion trends. Most recently, she is getting credit for all those super-tiny handbags you’ve been seeing everywhere. According to iconic handbag designer Lulu Guinness, Kate’s to blame for smaller handbags. Guiness told the Telegraph UK:

If she’s done anything for the handbag, it’s the fact that she wears small clutch bags. Personally, I am making my clutch bags smaller next season, so they’re more delicate and ladylike, and that’s to do with her, I think.

Kate nearly always carries a small clutch that perfectly matches her outfit. She tends to pick understated, simple designs in muted hues. While she has carried clutches from well-known brands like Mulberry and Anya Hindmarch, her clutch collection has also skyrocketed smaller UK brands like Wilbur & Gussie and Jaeger into fame (the latter actually named one of their bags after the DoC after she used it several times). Some of the Kate’s bags are barely bigger than a cell phone–we wonder what she keeps in there!

We rounded up some Kate Middleton-inspired clutches by a few of her favorite designers. What do you think of the tiny hand bag trend?
