Is Lipstick Queen's New Velvet Rope Lipstick Worth $50 A Tube?
August 28, 2013
I’ve been obsessed with Poppy King, founder of Lipstick Queen, for quite some time now. She’s the coolest person ever, and let’s not forget her insane talent in creating the best lipstick formulas on earth. Lipstick is my number one accessory (even over shoes!), so I’ll pay any price for an awesome red lippie—and it’s a good thing because her new Velvet Rope lipsticks cost $50 a pop. The range was inspired by Hollywood starlets walking down the red carpet (hence the name “Velvet Rope”) and comes in a fancy gold tube. I had to see what all the fuss was about, so I splurged on the color “Private Party” (You can never have too many lipsticks, right?).
So what’s so great about the formula, you ask? It’s the perfect marriage of a matte lipstick and a lip balm, and the shades are super pigmented. It glides on like velvet and doesn’t leave your lips dry and cracked like most matte lipsticks. As an extra touch, Poppy added peppermint oil to the formula, so the lipstick feels clean and refreshing on your lips. It also has amazing staying power. I wore the shade “Private Party” to a friend’s wedding last weekend and only had to apply it once (a miracle in my world). Check out a first-hand photo of me wearing Private Party over the weekend:
Poppy spent over 18 months perfecting the formula and she did a damn good job if you ask me. If you are a lipstick hater (as if!), I think this line might change your mind. Check out the slideshow above to see the full collection of shades and pre-order your favorite now.
