Celebrity Trend: Striped Dresses

As Seen On:  Geez, everybody it seems. Gwen Stefani, Thandie Newton, Alyssa Milano, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Sienna Miller have all sported the trend. (Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie's stripes were state issued.)

Why: Celebs like to stand out, so I guess dressing like a zebra or a felon is the best way to distinguish oneself from the monochromes.  And since we're feeling a little trapped by all the holiday parties coming up, we figure this is a  great way to  express our frustration and still get the attention we deserve.

Thandie Newton’s dress by Giles is now half off (was $4095, now $2047) – both the price and her shoulders.  Unfortunately, even after the markdown, the tag remains hefty.

If you are hesitant to break the bank on a trend that might not last through the New Year, don’t fear. The stripes have pervaded all tiers of the market. Lacoste makes a merino wool sweater dress (was $180, now $108) now on sale at Nordstrom.  The stripes are black and grey, so it’s not as shocking to the eye.

And for the ladies who really want to embrace the black and white, I suggest you rock the Alice and Olivia halter dress (was $198, now $153).

Okay, I must confess. Although I don't love some of the bolder styles, there are a few stripes I am guilty of coveting. Take a look at this adorable Marc by Marc Jacobs sweater dress ($248) or 12th Street by Cynthia Vincent jersey dress (was $345, now $172.50).

However, if I’m called to testify to that, I just might plead the Fifth.

Wondering what to wear with a dress that makes such a statement? A pair of chic black boots, of course–check out our great selection here. And don't forget the shapewear since horizontal stripes could make some lumps and bumps even more obvious.
