As our intern Julia so accurately put it, this is the “BEST NEWS EVER!” According to the Wall Street Journal, J.Crew is launching a lower-priced line online and in-store under the brand name J.Crew Mercantile. We wouldn’t say J.Crew has insane prices, but it’s definitely not for the budget-friendly shopper. So we’re pretty excited to hear about Mercantile. Are you?
Here’s what we know so far:
- The prices will be similar to J.Crew Factory.
- The company filed a patent last November to trademark “J.Crew Mercantile” for selling clothes AND accessories.
- The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office says J.Crew plans to use the name to create a chain of stores. Yes, there will potentially be stores ONLY for Mercantile products!
- WWD confirmed that the line will definitely include jewelry and travel accessories. Preppy statement necklaces and passport holders for everyone!
We don’t have an exact launch date yet for Mercantile, but watch this space for any more details.
