“Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring,” said Marilyn Monroe, whose 86th birthday would have been this Friday. It seems like the blonde bombshell’s still on everyone’s mind, almost 50 years after her tragic death. Michelle Williams won a Golden Globe this year for depicting the screen siren in My Week With Marilyn, Katharine McPhee and Megan Hilty vied for the role of the blonde icon on NBC’s Smash this season, and Nicki Minaj’s song “Marilyn Monroe” has been on everyone’s playlist since it leaked three months ago.
But Marilyn mania reached a new high this year when several brands have linked the actress’ image and name to their campaigns. Our favorite French retailer, Colette, is curating a collection of books and movies starring the icon, Guess has re-issued the Marilyn jeans to celebrate their 30th anniversary (after all, it were the Marilyn jeans that first put Guess on the fashion map in the 1980s), and M.A.C is launching a Monroe-inspired collection this October.
Will the NARS Andy Warhol collection have some depictions of the legendary muse as well? We’ll let you know closer to October when the collection launches. For more celeb style, shop Lana Del Rey inspired fashion and Alexa Chung’s Orla Kiely dress.
