A Find: City Mitts
April 28, 2006
No one would accuse you of having OCD if you insisted on washing your hands after every ride on some form of public transportation. Who knows what types of germs are lurking on those slippery silver poles, greasy turnstiles, and dirty ticket dispensers? Sometimes it’s hold on or get up-close-and-personal with a fellow urbanite. Using instant hand sanitizer or washing my hands just isn’t enough. I want full-on protection (no, I’m not a crazy germophobe, it’s just really gross). Apparently Emily Beck, founder of product development company Lulu Brands, feels the same way. She developed chic, antimicrobial gloves called City Mitts. City Mitts use a special fabric made with silver that prevents bacteria growth. The glove has a hole at the base of the palm that allows you to grip onto metal, glass, cell phones, and credit cards. Because the gloves are antimicrobial, you can store them in you purse after a bus ride and wash them whenever the mood strikes you. Plus, they’re cute. They come in black with pink or silver stars. If anyone looks at you funny, stare back and practice your Michael Jackson impersonation. You’ll be the one laughing when you avoid a bed-ridden week filled with fever and chills.
