This is making the rounds on the internet today: the random reason your favorite Duchess never takes off her coat in public!
If you’ve noticed that the mom-to-be always keeps her coat on at public appearances, that’s because it’s against royal protocol. Harper’s Bazaar noted the random royal rule back in 2017, and now as Kate makes the rounds on her Sweden tour, rocking a lot of outwear at every stop but often not showing the world what’s underneath, the internet is just fascinated.
Kate has been wearing many of her signature wool-blend tailored coats on her tour of Sweden and Norway, including from brands like Burberry and Stella McCartney. But one thing you won’t see a lot of Catherine doing is taking the coat off and showing her Marks & Spencer jumper or Caroline Walker green dress underneath. But why??

Harper’s Bazaar explains (via Southern Living): “Here’s something you might not have noticed: when Kate turns up to an event wearing a coat (or a coat-dress, as she so often does), she won’t ever take it off while she’s there. Even though she is most definitely wearing a chic dress underneath, taking off a coat is apparently an unladylike action and probably disrupts her outfit choice.”
Apparently, that’s not the only weird royal rule Kate and other women of the family (ahem, Meghan Markle) have to follow. The Queen also bans cleave, colorful nail polish and jeans, while favoring more modest, formal attire like hats and gloves at public events.

Mind. Blown. Well, good thing Meghan Markle has so many chic coats.
Now for your shopping pleasure, here’s one of the only coats that Kate has worn recently that are actually still in stock:
