Last Surviving 9/11 Rescue Dog Celebrates Her 16th Birthday In The Best Way Possible
September 11, 2015
Today marks the 14th anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center. As a nation, we will never forget what happened fourteen years ago and it’s hard to express our gratitude to all the first responders and rescuers who helped saved so many people’s lives. There is one rescuer who got the birthday celebration of a lifetime. Her name is Bretagne (pronounced Brittany) and she’s a golden retriever who had her 16th birthday this week. Bretagne is the last surviving canine from Ground Zero and she was flown to New York City with her owner, Denise Corliss, to celebrate her birthday in style.
Bretagne was just two years old when the attacks happened. Corliss and Bretagne were part of Texas Task Force 1 and September 11 was their first deployment together. Bretagne helped pull survivors from the rubble and debris at Ground Zero. Watch the video below to see how Bretagne got to celebrate her 16th birthday…and prepare to have tissues ready.
