I have been insecure about my lips for as long as I can remember. My top lip has always been thin, but to make matters worse, it’s also uneven. While most women were gawking at Kylie Jenner’s ever-growing lips, I was secretly curious, dare I say fascinated. But because I am a complete baby when it comes to needles, I put off giving them a try for years. That all changed last week. Yes, I finally built up the courage.
For this momentous occasion, I went to Dr. Andrew Miller at his Manhattan location and within 30 minutes I had the lips I always wanted. As you can see below, he made my lips fuller, but not unnatural at all.
Dr. Miller used 1 CC on both my upper and bottom lip and I think it was the perfect amount. Not only can you now see my top lip, but it is also nicely balanced and proportionate to the bottom lip as well. I am so happy with how they turned out and the procedure definitely gave me a boost of confidence!
If you are interested in having your lips enhanced, here are some key things to know:
- Make sure that you and your plastic surgeon have an understanding of what you want. I told Dr. Miller exactly what I was looking for and that was what he did.
- Understand that everyone reacts differently. You may or may not have swelling or bruising, it all depends on how you react to them. If you do encounter swelling, don’t worry, it doesn’t last long. Just ice your lips on and off and within 48 hours you should be good to go. I had some swelling and soreness afterward, but luckily didn’t bruise.
- The injections are not 100% pain-free. My biggest fear was the pain, but it was totally manageable. About 10 minutes before the injections, they apply numbing cream to your lips and it definitely helped. You do feel a little pinch as the needle is injected and can feel the Juvederm being put in. It is also completely normal to feel a burning sensation as well. Like I said earlier, I have a very low pain tolerance, so If I can get them done, anybody can.
- Don’t start off crazy. You can always go bigger if want, so it doesn’t have to be all at once.
