When it comes to dressing celebrities for glamorous red carpet appearances, high-end designers like Marchesa and Armani usually come to mind. But throughout 2011, Romanian designer Maria Lucia Hohan has been the top pick for starlets including Katherine Heigl, Stacy Keibler, Vanessa Hudgens, and Kristin Cavallari. Known for her ultra feminine, light-as-air silk chiffon gowns, as well as cocktail and party dresses, Hohan’s pieces accentuate all things ladylike.

“I think I bring something new with my dresses as they are somewhere between the classical red carpet gowns and easy-to-wear, flirty outfits,” explains Hohan, who made her red carpet debut with Chelsea Kane wearing a “beautiful black lace over nude mini-dress” (Ed note: that also sports a cute peplum!) at the MTV Movie Awards last year. Since then, she’s dressed multiple actresses, singers, and personalities—sometimes for several events within one week.

I design for a beautiful, young-at-heart [woman], who not only wants to look hyper-glam and highlight her femininity, but also feel comfortable all night long, without having the feeling of being overdressed.

What makes her pieces comfortable, young, and fresh is the way she drapes and pleats her floor-length gowns with ease. They perfectly fit a woman’s body—making her look like a modern-day Grecian goddess.

What’s next for Hohan this year? She continues to spot her styles on the celebrity-filled red carpet, as well as become a staple choice for her loyal star-studded clientele. But she still has her aspirations: “I’d die to see Charlize Theron, Penelope Cruz, and Keira Knightly wearing my gowns.” At Hohan’s rate and high demand, we wouldn’t be surprised if she does.

Now you can dress like these Tinseltown residents too! Check out our slideshow of our favorite Maria Lucia Hohan picks.
