Mary Katrantzou Did Not Forget The Prints For Her First-Ever Shoe Line
October 7, 2013
Queen of Prints Mary Katrantzou has many impressive collaborations on her resume (Topshop, Longchamp, Current/Elliott), but the most impressive to date just may be the designer’s first-ever shoe line, which she teamed up with Gianvito Rossi to create. Earlier this month at London Fashion Week, the British designer debuted a collection of booties that perfectly matched her Spring 2014 line, which itself was “inspired by shoes.” (Well, if the shoe fits…)
What, exactly, does it mean to be “inspired by shoes”? Katrantzou literally took images of shoes and blew them up to human proportions. She created daywear out of men’s brogues, sportier pieces out of sneakers (or ‘trainers’ as the Brits say) and gowns and eveningwear out of vintage evening slippers from the 50s and 60s. What perfect conditions to launch your first-ever shoe line, miss Mary, than a shoe fetishist’s dream!
And the designer is not stopping there: she told Refinery29 that her business is expanding to more accessories, swimwear and is also building out their ecommerce platform. And she thought brands like Topshop were clamoring to work with her before. Good luck once those signature prints are on bikinis and handbags and sunglasses everywhere. FOR NOW, JUST SHOP SHOES >>
