When the Milly x Banana Republic collection was announced back in January, summer was the last thing on our minds. But now that the launch date for the collection–May 30–is rapidly approaching, we can’t wait to get our hands on the colorful, “Hamptons-chic” designs. Milly’s Michelle Smith brought her bright prints and breezy dresses to the collection, but left her designer prices behind–the line starts at $39.50 and peaks at $175. The collection also includes her first foray into menswear.
We did some sleuthing and found a few more details about the much-anticipated collaboration — a Q&A with Smith on millyny.com. Here, Smith calls the collaboration “fresh, modern and spirited.” She says:
I have to admit, summer is my favorite season! I recommend breezy dresses, like the colorblock maxi from the Banana Republic Milly Collection, paired with a daring heel. The key to summer style is maintaining an easy balance of sexy and confident sophistication.
She also explains that while the line is Hamptons-inspired (Smith spends the summer in Watermill herself), it is intended to be worn “from the city to the beach.” And the designer’s other favorite piece from the collection? The ponte fit-and-flare dress. Based on what we’ve seen so far, we predict full shopping bags when the collection hits stores and bananarepublic.com on May 30.
