These designs are straight from the ’70s–get them at Net-A-Porter now.

During my days at a fashion magazine, I once did a story on the history of Coach–and promptly became obsessed with one of the house’s first handbag designers, Bonnie Cashin. If you’ve never heard of her, you can find out more at the Bonnie Cashin foundation–she was truly a pioneer in that she designed with function in mind.

Her quirky yet practical aesthetic resulted in the infamous “toggle” closure was inspired by the top of her ’60s convertible, and women’s raincoats with toggle pockets big enough to hold a paperback for subway reading. Her creativity and flair lent itself to a great run, and some seriously classic Coach handbags. Well, good news: now you don’t have to scour vintage stores looking for one of your own because Net-a-Porter has just re-released the collection, aptly  named “Coach Classics.”
