The Story Of How Rita Hazan Fixed My Botched Dye Job--And What She's Doing For You Now
March 27, 2012
Celebrity hairstylist Rita Hazan (the woman behind the blonde tresses of Jessica Simpson and Beyonce) and I go way back–to 2006, when I was an editorial assistant at Marie Claire, and volunteered to dye my own hair–from a box–for a three-page beauty story. (Yep, I sold my soul pretty easily for a big fat byline. So sue me!) The point of the hard-driving article was to show that the whole “from-the box” thing could totally be done. Well, I was wrong: my blonde highlights turned Sun-In brassy in a matter of 20 minutes, in front of the entire photo department, who gleefully documented the entire debacle. A quick cab ride over to Rita Hazan was in order, where she forced me to do it myself again, from a Clairol box, just to show it actually COULD be done, with a few modifications (Saran wrap was one genius trick). See here for the quick cheat sheet. Then she whispered in my ear, “Don’t worry, hun, I’ll fix it for you later.” And she did, for free–free of charge, cementing herself as forever my favorite beauty guru.
Now she’s spreading the cheer even further, way past the A-list clientele–to girls like you and me, with her new product, Rita Hazan temporary root concealer ($35 for TWO bottles at QVC) as opposed to $24 for just one at Sephora. #woo Just spray in the root concealer on days when you don’t have time to make it to the stylist’s chair but you need a little pick-me-up. Choose from five shades–just spray ‘n go.
This is the real deal. And how come no one ever thought of it before?! You get real Rita Hazan magic–in a can. For a steal. Well worth the price, and you didn’t even have to [email protected]#k up your hair in the process. Now that’s progress. Do your future busy self a favor, and get in on this phenomenon stat!
