After just two years at Lincoln Center, New York Fashion Week is thinking about moving on.
That’s the thing about fashion: you can never really tell where it’s going to be in two years.
It just doesn’t want to commit.
According to Fashionista, fickle NYFW’s new home could be something called The Culture Shed. Sounds kind of like a gross mashup between the ’80s Culture Club and a watershed, where grade school kids used to take science field trips to. Do they still do that?
Anyway, this Culture Shed will be a “sprawling, modern center” as part of a $15 billion NYC development project Hudson Yards. Not only could it potentially house lots of upcoming fashion shows, but also a giant Nordstrom store, and Coach’s headquarters.Wouldn’t that be weird if Fashion Week was essentially held at a mall?
At a press conference this week, Mayor Bloomberg explained that Fashion week has “outgrown Lincoln Center already” and said that the city would “need to make sure that we have the venues for these kinds of events and the Cultural Shed is one of those buildings that would be built to be able to handle that along with others [events].”So nothing totally specific, but he’s certainly hinting at it.
We’ll just see what the CFDA says about that.
