As the shows at Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week begin to wind down, the biggest trends for fall have begun to surface. We’ve got five of the best trends from the past week’s runways, and how to get them now and on a budget.
Leather has made an appearance on nearly every major runway over the past week. Designers like Altuzarra and Doori below- Preen and Prabal Gurung unleashed some biker attitude with leather pants, jackets, tops, and dresses.
Get the look with a black leather dress by Myne ($130). This dress achieves the (almost) impossible: it makes leather look and feel comfortable. The cap sleeves also add some flare to the dress. Pair it with some colored opaque tights to brighten up your look.
Get the look with this strapless red velvet mini by Leyendecker ($231). A velvet dress is perfect for a chilly night out. Mix fabrics with a textured cropped jacket that will show off your unique style. Pairing booties (like on the model below) with a mini is another unexpected way to mix up this look.
If you’re looking to add a little drama to your fall wardrobe, do it with elbow length gloves. Designers like Vera Wang and Donna Karan, below- Devi Kroell and Marc Jacobs went old Hollywood glam with sophisticated gloves
Get the look with these long black leather gloves by Mossimo ($17.99). These gloves are the ultimate in function (warm hands) and fashion (daring style). Wear these under a three-quarter sleeve jacket to give it some extra edge. If you’re feeling really bold, pair it with a long gown to mix old school elegance with avant-garde style.
Over the Knee Socks
Preppy private school girls served as inspiration for designer socks that hit above the ankle, knee, and even thigh. Designers like Rag & Bone and Marc Jacobs below- Jill Stuart and Rodarte kept feet toasty with this playful trend.
Get the look with knee-grazing black socks by Spanx ($10). Instead of storing your favorite spring/summer heels, use them all winter long with these knee high socks. Chunky platform sandals work best to show off the socks. You’ll look fierce with an above the knee skirt or short shorts.
See-through tops, dresses, and even pants were all over this week’s scantily clad runways. Designers like Max Azria and Hervé Léger below- Devi Kroell and Jason Wu showed some serious skin with airy sheer ensembles.
Get the look with this dress from Max Azria’s budget friendly sister line, BCBGeneration ($81). We love how this sheer dress has some ruched movement to it. It can be either simple and understated, or dressed up and cocktail ready. Add a statement necklace or chandelier earrings for some extra attention.
