Sam Fine, well known and oft requested celebrity makeup artist, literally wrote the book on African-American beauty. The author of Fine Beauty: Beauty Basics and Beyond for African American Women recently wrapped up his 10-city “Fine Beauty Tour,” which travelled from New York to California. His trademark look features sultry, exotic eyes and golden hued eyebrows that open up the face. During the tour, Fine fielded questions and offered makeup demonstrations. Some of his tips and tricks include:
*Use a tissue to blot foundation and concealer after they’re applied. This gives an extra-matte finish to the makeup to slow down oily breakthrough.
*Apply two colors of foundation, one with reddish undertones, to prevent the face from looking too “flat.”
*Use lash curlers. They help open up the eyes.
*Bleach the eyebrows. And don’t be afraid to cruise the drugstore for your beauty staples. One of Fine’s tools is Maybelline’s Expert Eyes Brow & Eye Pencils. Sucker that I am, I ran right out and bought these pencils. For me, they were a waste. The medium brown was too reddish for my taste. But, luckily, since I bought them at the nearest pharmacy, I was out only a few bucks. Choose your colors carefully.
