Wouldn’t life be grand if we all had access to Carrie Bradshaw’s shoe collection? According to Sophia Banay at Forbes.com, Ms. Bradshaw is not the only lady who goes ga-ga for expensive footwear. Banay reports that women spent over $17 billion on fashion footwear between October 2004 and October 2005! What turns an ordinary shoe into such a status symbol? Rare leather (ostrich, snake, alligator), built-to-last craftsmanship, and a tag that reads Choo, Blahnik, or Louboutin. Manolo Blahnik boasts the most expensive with a $14,000 pair of alligator skin boots. Unfortunately these babies are only available at the Manolo Blahnik store in Manhattan. Lord of Luggage, Louis Vuitton comes in second with a pair of Vienna Minimalisa high boots in ostrich leather. For $4,500, I don’t think there’s anything minimalisa about ’em. You can find more info at louisvuitton.com. My personal favorite, pictured above, is designed by Salvatore Ferragamo. A pair of decadent crocodile Avila t-straps clocks in at $2,390.
