Newsflash: Germany's On The Normal-Model Bandwagon
October 6, 2009
Brigitte, Germany’s most popular women’s magazine, has decided to stop using models. Period. Beginning six months from now, the magazine will feature a mix of regular readers and more prominent ladies (we wonder if this group will include skinny actresses?)
From a country that brought us Heidi Klum – who claims she had trouble breaking into the modeling industry because she was curvier than her competition, and refused to lose weight to look like the other girls – we’re not surprised at the move. However, we’re definitely impressed by this level of commitment to the issue of women’s self-image, and will be keeping a close watch on how the magazine fares (and what its new non-model models look like) a few months from now.
