SheFinds Checks It Out: Nicole Miller At JCPenney
October 14, 2008
I haven’t thought about visiting a JCPenney in two decades. Not since I was almost busted shoplifting lingerie there in junior high with my BFF. I cringed immediately when I was asked to review Nicole Miller’s latest collection at JCP which launched for fall last month.
Alas, my semi-grown-up self headed to the mall, sans the tight perm and high bangs from years past to check out the goods. I felt absolutely compelled to find items to buy, and though it wasn’t exactly easy, I did find a few items that were a bit more than acceptable and practically free since everything is now on sale.
The Nicole Miller I know has an unabashed love of quirky prints that traverse kitsch to culture. I was trying to find a top that showed off her unique eye for prints without seeming obvious. This sleeveless peasant blouse ($22, was $46) has a neckline that is flattering and is actually long enough to pair with either jeans or your new treggings.
We all tend to skew neutral or black for evenings out on the town. But as we saunter out into the evenings cloaked in darkness, our handbags always reveal our more unique stories. This strong croco-embossed clutch ($32, was $55) had me at the smart handle top. And the color is hot, a perfect pairing with whatever dark ensembles we’re spotted skulking in around our respective cities.
What to avoid:
Though it seems strange for any of us to steer clear of sweaters this time of year, I would gently suggest that you can do better than the ones involved in Nicole Miller’s collection at JCP. Though the dark colors of eggplant and black can indeed cover a multitude of sins, they are a hint of itchy and a bit oversized for my taste.
