Once And For All, How To Prevent Clothes From Pilling

Ugh, pilling is the worst. Nothing ruins a sweater more than little balls of fabric. It’s straight up unattractive and annoying to deal with. Here are some things to keep in mind to help prevent your clothes from pilling.

Air dry. By avoiding the dryer you’re avoiding your clothes from tumbling around. This will help reduce the fabric from being pulled and picked at.

Wash inside out or with a garment bag. Pilling occurs when fabrics rub together so eliminate the situation by turning your clothes inside out before throwing them in the washer. For extra precaution, you can use a garment bag.

Wash on gentle cycle. This will minimize agitation and be gentler on your clothing. It’s even better to hand wash but if you don’t have the time or patience for that, gentle cycle is totally fine.

Use liquid detergent. Stay away from powdered detergent as this will rub up against your clothes in the washer.
