You’ve heard this about a thousand times… Don’t put your laptop on your lap. It goes along with those myths that you never really know if they’re true or not. Here at SHEfinds, we wanted to crack down on this mystery and see, once and for all, is it really bad to use your laptop on your lap? It is called a laptop after all, but we want to know if we really shouldn’t be putting it on our laps. So here’s what we found…
Beware of your skin. Having an extremely hot laptop can cause skin diseases! After prolonged and repeated exposure to an overheated laptop, your skin can become discolored or gain a weird texture – this is called “toasted skin syndrome.” It’s been found in a few rare cases, and it doesn’t go away, so be careful!
The Big ‘C’. Repeated laptop exposure to skin has also been linked to skin cancer. There haven’t been that many direct linked cases between laptops and cancer, but there is definitely a theoretical risk associated between using technology too close to your skin and getting the illness.
Infertility. There have been many rumors that using a laptop over your lower abdomen area may cause infertility, in both men and women. Try getting a laptop desk or cooler to put some distance between you and your computer.
These are just some of the negative things that are associated with laptop use on your lap. To read more about them, check it out here. It never hurts to be careful, and make sure that you don’t spend too much time on the computer! Maybe instead of using your lap, get a small tray or lap-desk to place your computer on–Target has a ton of cute ones.
