The One Thing You Should Never Do When Wearing Contacts

Anyone who’s gotten a pair of contact lenses for the first time after years of wearing glasses knows that a lifesaver they can be. (No more smudgy lenses! No need to change your appearance in order to see!) However, unlike with glasses, wearing contacts requires a little extra TLC when it comes to making sure your eyes are staying healthy. You probably know by now that it’s super important to keep them clean and to change the solution in your case every night – but what’s the one thing you should absolutely never do when wearing contacts?

Before jumping in the shower or taking a dip in the pool this summer, always make sure to take a few seconds to pop your lenses out of your eyes – you should never be showering, swimming or bathing with them in. Water, especially in hot tubs, is a breeding ground for bacteria that can eventually end up trapped behind your contact – not good.

We know, we know, it’s a hassle – but removing your contacts before swimming or bathing will save you tons of trouble down the road. If you accidentally do get them wet? Just make sure to clean them like crazy ASAP.
