Last year, Milly designer Michele Smith delighted the boating set when she put her signature bold prints on a line of Sperry top-siders, wedges and flat sneakers. While Milly is known for dressing the uptown girl with a little spunk, the Sperry brand is all about “living life in and around the water,” according to vice president of design Bradley O’Brien, and so the resulting collaboration was something that made prepsters squeal with delight. Color! Nautical elements! Sperry’s signature laces! It’s no wonder they’ve decided to team up again for 2013.
O’Brien and Smith sat down with NYMag’s The Cut blog to talk about the new line, which features lucite heeled sandals, glittery espadrille wedges, and the classic Authentic Original top-sider in metallic, neon and printed finishes.
“I’ve been wearing Sperry Top-Siders from the time that I was a kid so it’s really a thrill to design my own spin on this very iconic shoe,” Smith told The Cut. Her favorite shoe from the collection? These neon-accented ankle strap sandals, which also feature a clear heel and Sperry’s signature rope laces.
You’ll also find versions of Sperry’s Authentic Originals in the line, like O’Brien’s favorite pair which features metallic suede.
