Photos: Princess Diana's Back-Up Wedding Dress & Shoes (Plus How She Was Ahead Of Her Time)

Long before Kate Middleton-hysteria, the royal wedding of the decade belonged to Princess Diana and Prince Charles. The couple was certainly prepared for their 1981 nuptials: Diana had a back-up wedding gown and shoes made up just in case – both exact replicas of what she actually wore. These unusual (and perfectly unused) Royal Wedding extras recently sold at auction for a combined £84,000.

Thirty years after her wedding day, Princess Di’s romantic, bridal lace flats are almost on-trend once again – and check out the super cute “C & D” monograms on the sole! Considering how huge sole decals are (like “I Do” and the couples’ monogram) I’d say she was pretty ahead of her time.

If you’re looking for a pair of fancy lace heels or flats  for your wedding day, try:

These Stuart Weitzman Bridal Chantelle Heels ($112.50, down from $375), or these Pour La Victoire Bridal Milou Flats ($39.99, down from $154).
